MY PHILOSOPHY AND EXPERIENCE

Have you always wanted to learn the piano?  Or maybe you haven’t played in a while and you’re wanting to refresh and enhance what you  know.  Learning an instrument is a rewarding, lifetime gift.

My name is Inger Latreille, a Napa resident for 17 years.  In my many years of playing experience, I’ve been fortunate to share my passion of music with others, giving the student the feeling of an “I can do it!” attitude.  My students range from the very young beginner to those of retirement age looking to learn or revisit this fantastic instrument.   Since learning music is like learning a new language, my goal is to get each student to a proficient level of reading, playing and broadening their skills, so that they gain more confidence in their abilities. Music training should be a fun process, while building a solid foundation.

My music journey began at the age of 5, tinkering on my grandmother’s grand piano and organ.  I became awestruck ever since.  For 11 years I privately took classical piano and theory lessons, while involving myself heavily in musicals, choirs, recitals and community theatre.  This carried over to my college years where I attended Hayward State University with an emphasis in voice.  I continued on to San Jose State University where I completed my Bachelor of Science in the Arts. I currently perform at recitals, weddings and accompany for various music programs in Napa.  I also serve on the Napa High School Choir Board.  In my 5 years of teaching, I’ve come to realize that not only do I love teaching, but love learning a great deal from my students as well.

I will generally suggest pieces appropriate to the student’s level, but am always open to their wishes of which music genre they’re most interested in.  And since music is meant to be shared, each student will have a wonderful opportunity to perform for each other as well as for their friends and family, in recital form.

Hi, Mrs. Latreille! Can I learn the sheet music for this is the song that never ends? (If I could find it!)

Inger is a very fun, energetic and personable individual, and the ultimate professional musician. She is a highly gifted, talented pianist, and she is especially talented in being caring and kind with children, helping them to learn and apply themselves to the instrument piano. Inger taught my three children while we lived in Napa. We all feel lucky to have met her, and my kids are grateful to have been her students. Even though my boys (10 and 12, and then 11 and 13) often wanted to not practice or continue lessons, Inger always found a way to make things interesting and fun for them, and kept encouraging them. And they did come to like it, and responded well to her teaching, and continued! My husband and I highly recommend Inger for piano lessons. I only wish we could have stayed in Napa so that our three kids could have continued thier lessons with her.

Nice website and information. Thank you. Maybe someday I’ll be a twinkle fingers and learn more than chop sticks.
